When George S. Halas was asked to rebuild the Staley Company's
football club in Decatur, Illinois in 1920, nobody could have
imagined that his efforts would forever change Sunday afternoons in
America. Halas helped found the National Football League, and with
it the Chicago Bears, the most storied franchise in the league's
history. From the Galloping Ghost, to the Monsters of the Midway,
to that indomitable "46" defense -- the "Grabowskis" as their coach
named them -- Bears teams and players have made such an impact on
the city of big shoulders that Chicago will be forever known as a
"Bears town."
'A life-changing diet... in 8 weeks you can halt the progress of
pre-diabetes and even reverse type 2 diabetes returning blood sugar
levels to normal.' - Daily Mail **AS SEEN ON CHANNEL 4** Dr Michael
Mosley, author of the bestselling 5:2 Fast Diet, reveals a
game-changing approach to one of the greatest silent epidemics of
our time - raised blood sugar levels. The food we eat today, high
in sugar and easily digestible carbohydrates, is not only making us
fat, but is putting us at risk of type 2 diabetes, strokes,
dementia, cancer and a lifetime on medication. More than a third of
adults in the UK now have raised blood sugar levels and most don't
know it. In this timely book, Dr Mosley explains why we pile on
dangerous abdominal fat and shows us how to shed it, fast. He
demolishes common myths, such as the claim that steady weight loss
is always better than rapid weight loss and that those who lose
weight rapidly will inevitably put it back on. This is a book not
just for those at highest risk but for anyone who has struggled
with their weight and wants to regain control of their health.
Thermoelectrics is the science and technology associated with thermoelectric converters, that is, the generation of electrical power by the Seebeck effect and refrigeration by the Peltier effect. Thermoelectric generators are being used in increasing numbers to provide electrical power in medical, military, and deep space applications where combinations of their desirable properties outweigh their relatively high cost and low generating efficiency. In recent years there also has been an increase in the requirement for thermoelectric coolers (Peltier devices) for use in infrared detectors and in optical communications. Information on thermoelectrics is not readily available as it is widely scattered throughout the literature. The Handbook centralizes this information in a convenient format under a single cover. Sixty of the world's foremost authorities on thermoelectrics have contributed to this Handbook. It is comprised of fifty-five chapters, a number of which contain previously unpublished material. The contents are arranged in eight sections: general principles and theoretical considerations, material preparation, measurement of thermoelectric properties, thermoelectric materials, thermoelectric generation, generator applications, thermoelectric refrigeration, and applications of thermoelectric cooling. The CRC Handbook of Thermoelectrics has a broad-based scope. It will interest researchers, technologists, and manufacturers, as well as students and the well-informed, non-specialist reader.
From the pioneer of diabetes reversal and creator of the 'Newcastle
Diet'
For centuries type 2 diabetes was regarded as an incurable, lifelong
condition. Even worse, it seemed to be inevitably progressive – but no
longer.
Professor Roy Taylor is one of the world’s leading experts on type 2,
the man who in 2006 finally found the missing piece of the jigsaw
explaining that it was actually a reversible condition. With his team
of researchers at Newcastle University, he launched a series of studies
leading to a remarkable, multi-million-pound trial, which in 2019
confirmed that simple advice about diet could bring about lasting
remission.
In this book, Taylor brings all the knowledge and experience of four
decades of treating people with diabetes. He explains exactly what is
happening in the body as type 2 diabetes develops and shows how you can
live a full and healthy life beyond it.
** Includes the 3-step Newcastle weight loss programme, as well as
delicious tried-and-tested recipes from participants of the diabetes
reversal trials **
Churches have split and denominations have formed over the issue of
church government. While many Christians can explain their church's
form of rule or defend it because of its "tried and true"
traditions, few people understand their church's administrative
customs from a biblical perspective. Who Runs the Church? explores
questions such as: What model for governing the church does the
Bible provide, and is such a model given for practical or spiritual
reasons? Is there room for different methods within Christianity?
Or is there a right way of "doing church"? And, finally, how (and
by whom) should the church be governed? Four predominant approaches
to church government are presented by respected proponents:
Episcopalianism - represented by Peter Toon Presbyterianism -
represented by L. Roy Taylor Single-Elder Congregationalism -
represented by Paige Patterson Plural-Elder Congregationalism -
represented by Samuel E. Waldron As in other Counterpoints books,
each view is followed by critiques from the other contributors, and
its advocate then responds.
In this pocket version of his bestselling Life Without Diabetes, Professor Roy Taylor offers a brilliantly concise explanation of what happens to us when we get type 2 and how we can escape it.
Taylor's research has demonstrated that type 2 is caused by just one factor - too much internal fat in the liver and pancreas - and that to reverse it you need to strip this harmful internal fat out with rapid weight loss.
In simple, accessible language, Taylor takes you through the three steps of his clinically proven Newcastle weight loss plan and shows how to incorporate the programme into your life.
Complete with FAQs and inspirational tips from his trial participants, this is an essential read for anyone who has been given a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes and wants to understand their condition and transform their outcomes.

Back in the late 1930s it was a common practice for the Government
of England to call up young men into the Armed Services. After the
war with Germany ended (1945) this practice continued so that
England would have ready trained Armed Forces in case war with any
other country should be declared. North Korea was a good example. I
decided to beat the call up and instead volunteer so that I could
be in the service that I desired. For the average service person,
the Royal Air Force was a force that did not put the person in an
area where gunfire ruled. I did not want to be involved in the
exchange of gunfire with anyone. Electronics was my liking and
although many over the air two way discussions did take place, it
was always in firm, sensible, good language. That was the way that
I was brought up and that was the way that I stayed. The book is
about my life and the way that I reacted when mixed with other
youth from around England. I have long had the belief that I was
chosen and helped to become what I am. The book is about my
experiences and how my helper kept me on track, even when serving
in a foreign country.
